Triumph at the UK ITF Taekwondo Championships

An electric atmosphere and months of preparation culminated in double gold for one of our talented young athletes at the UK ITF National Taekwondo Championships. Competing in both the Patterns and Sparring divisions, he showcased composure, power and precision – earning the title of National Champion in both events.

On Saturday, 11th October, I participated in the UK ITF National Taekwondo Championships in Hatfield. My category was the 12-14 year old, Fourth Kup to Degree Males. There was an electric atmosphere as we selected individuals from across the UK and Ireland gathered to compete.

Starting with the Patterns competition (which involves performing precise sequences of defensive and offensive movements in front of five judges) I was able to showcase my technique and power, which included a 360-degree spin in the air. I was able to secure all five judges’ votes in each round, including the final, leading to my award of a gold medal and the title of National Champion for Patterns.

The Sparring competition followed; this involves trying to score points using punches and kicks to the head and body of your opponent during a timed fight. In the final, my opponent had a height advantage, which made me quite nervous, but I kept my composure, and I was able to dominate and control the fight, winning my second gold medal for Hyper-weight Sparring.

I was happy to leave the tournament double National Champion.
