Writes Yogesh P. (4ths) and Devan P. (4ths)
Our guru (spiritual leader) Mahant Swami Maharaj has inspired over 15,000 people from around the world to memorise 315 verses in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. As Sanskrit is not a commonly spoken language this was not an easy task and just a single recital of these verses takes over an hour.
Then, as it was his wish, over 12,000 children from around the world (who had memorised these verses) came together in India for a simultaneous recital. As we sang, the air was filled with divinity, and our voices could be heard – strong and loud – for miles.
As a bonus, the recitation was officially recognized as a Guinness World record attempt as the highest number of children simultaneously reciting Sanskrit verses. But had we broken the record?
There was an invigilator for every 50 children, checking our pronunciation and seeing if we were singing in time. Even the invigilators were shocked by the unity of our voices!
We had done it and now have officially participated in a world record breaking event! Everyone from ages 3-14 had sang and connected.
The event highlighted the importance of preserving ancient wisdom in the digital age, focusing on children’s memory, discipline, and cultural values.
It was a truly unique and uplifting experience and one we will always cherish.
