Year 8 French Translation Bee Competition

Writes Emilie Danis, Head of French

This week, our Upper Third students participated in the French Department’s Translation Bee competition. A total of 26 pupils progressed to the semi-finals on Tuesday, setting an impressively high standard from the outset.

From here, five boys then advanced to the final: Devan P, Zalaan M, Eashar S, Kian S, and Lorenzo L. The competition remained intense, with all finalists delivering excellent performances.

After a fiercely contested round (une lutte acharnée), Devan P. emerged as the winner, successfully translating an outstanding nineteen sentences from English into French. He was closely followed by Lorenzo L. who translated seventeen, whilst Kian S. secured third place with fourteen.

Our sincere thanks go to Mrs Kotsuba for organising the competition so expertly, and to Mr Wells for his role as MC, helping to create such an engaging and enjoyable event.

We are already looking forward to running the Translation Bee again next year, as it is fast becoming a firm favourite among our Lower School students
