Writes Joan Stubbs, Visiting Organ Teacher
Four students recently took part in a concert at Aldenham Church as part of their Coffee Concert series and presented a programme of varied items to a very appreciative audience of family, friends and parishioners.
First to play on the organ was Chase L. (4ths) who started with lively and rhythmic performance of Batalha do sexto tom by Pedro de Araújo; he followed this with a sparkling performance of Prelude by Fischer where he showed off the loudest stops on the organ with admirable skill.
Singer Aaranv H. (L6) performed next, singing two songs by Handel – the famous Ombra mai fu which was sung with heartfelt expression, before a dramatic rendition of Ciel e terra armi di sdegno from Handel’s opera Tamerlano. Jayde L. (4th) took over on the organ presenting a bold performance of Flourish by Bullard, which he followed with a serene and beautifully controlled performance of Aria by Solomon.
Ethan G. (5ths) was last to perform treating us to a lively interpretation of Récit de Nazard by the French Baroque composer Clérambault, before finishing with one of Howells’ beautiful Psalm Preludes in a carefully restrained and expressive portrayal.
Well done to the boys for producing some brilliant performances!
