Merchant Taylors’ tennis team enjoyed a successful period of fixtures, with strong performances from both the U15 and U18 squads across two competitive matches.
On Tuesday 5 May, Taylors’ welcomed twelve players from Westminster School for an afternoon of high-quality tennis. The fixture comprised three rounds of doubles matches for both the U15 and U18 teams.
The U15 team consisted of Ayngaran M. (4ths) & Rian V. (4ths), Marc P. (4ths) & Zacharia R. (4ths), and Caiden W L (4ths) & William M‑S (Divs). Representing the U18s were James G. (L6th) & Yash K. (L6th), Lasen de S. (L6th) & Charlie B. (L6th), and Marcus W. (L6th) & Daniel Z. (L6th).
Both Taylors’ teams played with confidence and authority throughout the afternoon. Strong serving, consistent rallies and skilful returns were reflected in the final scores, with the U15s securing an impressive 16–2 victory and the U18s winning 12–6.
One of the highlights of the fixture came in the final match of the day, when the boys’ third U18 pair faced Westminster’s first pair in a tense and closely fought tie-break. After an intense contest, Westminster edged the match 11–9, bringing an exciting conclusion to an excellent afternoon of tennis. Throughout the fixture, the players were outstanding ambassadors for the school, demonstrating respectful and sportsmanlike behaviour both on and off the court.
Later in the week, the U15s followed up this success with another strong performance in their fixture against Highgate. The team, led by Ayngaran M. (Team Captain, 4ths) and Marc P. (Vice Captain, 4ths), alongside Rian V. (4ths) and Jai H. (Divs), produced a series of impressive individual and team displays.
In the singles matches, Ayngaran claimed a composed 6–2 victory, Marc battled through a closely contested encounter to win 7–5, and Rian delivered a dominant 6–1 performance. Jai narrowly missed out in a competitive match, losing 6–4. The team carried this momentum into the doubles, where Ayngaran and Jai recorded a convincing 6–1 win, while Marc and Rian combined effectively to seal a comprehensive 6–0 victory.
Across both fixtures, the boys demonstrated excellent focus, control and maturity, representing Merchant Taylors’ with distinction. Congratulations to all involved on two performances to be proud of.
