Junior History Club Castle Competition

Writes Felicity Blatchford Pace, Teacher of History

This year an enthusiastic group of Third and Fourth Formers undertook the challenge to create the most accurate castle that they could. The boys worked tirelessly giving up their breaks across a whole half term and sometimes in the blazing heat.

Their creativity was brilliant and they used a huge variety of mostly recycled materials; from scrap wood to clay, foam and filler. The results made it incredibly hard for the expert judge to make a decision. In third place with a very precise Motte and Bailey design was Ansh P. (3rds), in second place were Avi A. (4ths), Max D. (4ths) and Jas S. (4ths) with an accurate and detailed Motte and Bailey. In first place were Alex B. (4ths), Ciaran K-N. (4ths) and Zach G. (4ths) with an accurate and incredibly detailed Motte and Bailey with very creative use of materials.

A huge thank you to the DT department and Art department for allowing them to use their spaces and the DT technicians for all their support for the boys’ projects. Prizes and certificates will be given out after the September open day when visitors will be able to vote for the best castle. Junior History Club will return in September and is open to all in the Thirds, Upper Thirds & Fourths.
