Writes Rachel Harrison, Assistant Librarian
This week, our book club members marked National Poetry Day with a creative and surprisingly tricky challenge. Participants were tasked with crafting their own ‘ransom note poems’, a playful form of poetry that involves cutting out words, phrases and letters from magazines and newspapers to build new pieces of writing.
The Book Boffz soon found themselves surrounded by a sea of pages and colourful cuttings as they carefully pieced together their creations. What at first seemed like a light-hearted activity quickly proved to be a bit more demanding than expected, requiring patience, imagination, and much swapping and trading of cuttings. Lucas G. (3rds) and Louis Q. (3rds) and Joshua A. (U3rds) embraced the traditional idea of a ransom note – full of dramatic demands and mystery- while others leaned towards something more poetic in tone.
All took part with great enthusiasm, and the results which they performed at the end of the session were wonderfully varied, reflecting individual creativity and humour!
Book Boffz meet every Friday at 3:45pm for an hour of book-related games, creative activities, and of course, biscuits. All Third and Upper Third Form pupils are warmly invited to join the fun, share their ideas, and enjoy a relaxed end to the school week.
