Rugby Week was a fantastic festival of Rugby, with fourteen school teams playing under lights against a variety of opposition including Reading Blue Coat, Berkhamsted, Shiplake, QEB, York House and MTP. There were some superb and exciting performances early in the week with the U15s and U14s performing admirably. An excellent performance by the U14C team deserves a highlight, as does an incredible defensive output by the U16A side against a strong Reading Blue Coat.
The week culminated in the Friday Night Lights. The Rugby Week Barbarians was first up, featuring U9, U10 and U11 players from a variety of schools and clubs. A hundred and ten of them split into Red, Blue and Black teams, coached by our U15 and U16 pupils in a round-robin tournament. The energy and excitement was palpable and they loved the opportunity to compete. The 1st XV brought the week to a close against a determined and dogged Reading Blue Coat. The past three meetings have all been very close and this was no different. The evening dew complicated matters with handling difficult, though the evening did feature Anthony P scoring one of the tries of the season (and beyond), running from his own half and beating multiple defenders to scorch up the pitch. Ultimately, MTS had enough quality to win 31-20 and continue their excellent start to the season.
