On Saturday 8th November, we had an excellent rugby block v’s Haileybury. Merchant Taylors’ won 5 matches, with the 2nd XV, U16B, U15AB and U14B all recording victories. This was the first time we have played Haileybury in rugby and it is definitely a block we will look to continue in the coming seasons as matches were competitive and played in the right spirit. The U15A team followed up their victory with an impressive win against Mill Hill in the Cup on Tuesday. Shivesh J. scored a fantastic individual try and Cooper M. was the hero with a successful conversion that won the game in the last minute! They will now play St Paul’s or St John’s, Leatherhead in the next round. The 1st XV also beat Windsor Boys to give them the motivational boost they needed!
‘Spirit’ is very important in sport. We ask our boys to be Selfless, Proud, take Ownership, be Respectful and show Tenacity when representing the Lamb. These values and behaviours are fundamental to how we want to represent ourselves and we are confident that if we display such values, positive performances will be a byproduct.
Elsewhere, our cross-country boys competed in the ESAA regionals at Dulwich Common on Monday. We didn’t quite qualify for the next round but there were some fantastic individual performances on what was a wet and muddy day! Well done to Eliyaan J., Advay B., Sami M. and Ziyan H! The basketball team beat Dwight School and there were also wins for our 1st and 2nd XI football teams v’s Aylesbury Grammar.
The U16 Indoor Hockey squad travelled to Bishop’s Stortford on Wednesday. They beat Haileybury 2-1 and drew against Watford Grammar and Hitchin. Unfortunately, a 2-1 loss to the hosts meant we didn’t end up winning the group and just missed out on qualification for the next round.
On Thursday, our Tennis B team won an enthralling encounter v’s John Lyon School. The match result was 6-6 but we managed to win the tie break to progress to the next round. Our squash team also played Harrow School and our golfers take on St Albans on Friday in the ISGA Competition. This weekend our rugby teams play Windsor Boys and Mill Hill.
