On Friday 18 September, the Inner Quad served as the perfect setting for September Fest, marking our inaugural Sixth Form social of the academic year alongside Royal Masonic School. The event brought students together for an enjoyable evening centred around interactive games, music, food and spirited chatter.
A festive spread of hot dogs, fresh popcorn, cotton candy, and ice cream, catered by Mr Fayer, was available in the under croft for guests to enjoy between activities. Out in the quad, the setup included sack races, skittles, boules, and apple bobbing, ensuring a variety of traditional games were available throughout the evening. Ms Baruch offered face painting, while Mr Patel and Markus F. (5ths) entertained guests with their spectacular magic. Nearby, guests could also try their hand at knocking a coconut off its stand with a tennis ball – a challenge that proved much harder than it looked!
The central talking point of the evening, however, was the highly anticipated raffle (in support for next year’s Nepal expedition). In an extraordinary stroke of luck, Lower Sixth student Saif A-O. managed to defy the odds by having his name drawn an incredible five times. While organisers stepped in to limit him to three prizes, his unbelievable streak left fellow pupils joking about how he pulled it off, though Saif A-O. adamantly credited the night to pure good fortune. Music was provided by Kian C. (U6ths), and we also had our very own DJ in Mr Murray-Brown, who kept the music going all night. As the excitement of the draw wound down, the crowd gathered for the final event of the evening: a light show that cast moving tones directly over the clock tower, giving it a stylish, luminous sheen, which brought September Fest to a brilliant and memorable close.
Ultimately, the night was a great success, providing an excellent, easy-going opportunity for attendees to socialise, reconnect with familiar faces, and connect with unfamiliar ones at the start of the term. Thank you to all the staff for the tombola donations and for supervising the evening. The Sixth Form can also look forward to a brilliant line-up of collaborative events in the months ahead.
