Last week the Book Boffz set their imaginations ablaze as they envisioned their ideal libraries – spaces that reflect their love of books and reading.
The Book Boffz kicked off this imaginative journey by exploring some of the most extraordinary libraries around the world, ranging from libraries that boast awe-inspiring architecture to those with expansive collections of books and digital resources, or unique services and rules. These served as inspiration for the Book Boffz’s own creative endeavours as they then unleashed their inner architects, artists, and wordsmiths, crafting descriptions and illustrations of their dream libraries.
One ambitious concept was a library built entirely of glass, submerged underwater, allowing visitors to watch mesmerising marine life swim by as they read or study. To reach their destination, readers would be transported via pods equipped with breathing apparatus, and once inside, beanbags and sofas would provide comfortable areas for a spot of underwater reading. However, be warned – any library rule breakers might face a penalty harsher than detention: an unplanned swim with the sharks!
Another remarkable idea brought the magic of the forest into the library setting. This design featured a treetop sanctuary perched high among the branches, offering great views and cosy nooks for patrons to read, relax and take in the natural beauty surrounding them. A lift carved within the trunk of the tree would provide ease of access for all.
For many of the Book Boffz, futuristic elements such as robot librarians played a pivotal role in their designs, ensuring that their dream libraries are not only efficient but also at the forefront of technological innovation. In addition to automated staff, book delivery services by drone and free drinks and snacks featured heavily throughout their visions. E-books were popular and gaming enthusiasts weren’t left out either, with entire floors dedicated to digital pursuits.
Thirds and Upper Thirds who enjoy biscuits and book related challenges similar to this one are very welcome to join the Book Boffz who meet weekly on Fridays at 3.45pm in the Junior Library.
