Writes Tristan Greenaway, Deputy Head: Co-Curricular
With House Bowls now firmly established as a popular House Competition, lawn games seem to be going though somewhat of a renaissance at Taylors’. With two beautifully manicured lawns in The Inner Quad, croquet is the game of choice when the weather allows. With all the practise that goes on in The Hour, the first away croquet match in over a decade took place at Abingdon School on Wednesday 17 June.
There were eight pairs matches over the course of the afternoon and with staff members Mr Hill and Mr Greenaway adding a certain ballast to the team, a 5-3 win (we think) was recorded. Thanks should go to Lower Sixth Formers Kyle P., Daniel Z., Ryan C. and Max B., with further congratulations to Thomas B. and Marcus W. who had great success against a pair that included a nationally ranked player.
With a home re-match set to take place at Merchant Taylors’ in September and rumours of us entering the National Championship next May, the future for croquet at the school looks set to be a bright one.
