Yesterday, Walter House came together in great spirits to celebrate their annual House Day – a wonderful event dedicated to teamwork, generosity, and a healthy dose of friendly competition.
This year, the House voted to support two meaningful causes: Cancer Research UK and Herts Young Homeless, raising funds through a series of activities organised and led by the Upper Sixth Walter Monitors, with support from their tutors.
The day began with a lively House Breakfast, where pupils enjoyed fruit, pastries, and pancakes before lessons – a cheerful start that set the tone for the day ahead. Later, the much-anticipated bake sale saw tables piled high with homemade cakes, biscuits, and sweet treats, all sold to raise money for the chosen charities. The generosity and creativity of the bakers were matched only by the enthusiasm of their hungry customers!
During the Hour, the penalty shootout and ring toss games gave boys across the School a chance to join in the fun, as laughter and cheers filled the playground. To round off the day, the Upper Sixth hosted a relaxed poker evening for Divs and Sixth Formers, adding a touch of friendly rivalry to the fundraising efforts.
Throughout the day, Walter pupils proudly wore their house tops as a symbol of unity and spirit, pairing them with their usual school attire. The result was a colourful celebration that reflected the best of Merchant Taylors’ community – camaraderie, kindness, and commitment to making a difference.
All proceeds from the day will be shared between Cancer Research UK and Herts Young Homeless, supporting vital work both nationally and locally.
Congratulations and thanks go to the Walter prefect team and tutors for their hard work in organising such a successful and enjoyable day – and to everyone who baked, played, and participated for two brilliant causes.
