Around 11,000 men die every year from testicular cancer. That is on a per year basis, and the number of cases for it has been rising for the past 50 years, with some countries reporting a doubling of cases in only the past two decades. And where is this leading to? Even though it is the most common form of cancer for men aged 15-49 in the UK, it is also one of the most curable and preventable forms of cancer. That prevention has been massively helped through the raising of awareness about the cancer through the charity Oddballs, who Taylors’ are a sponsor of.
To help raise even more money for such an honourable and selfless cause which millions have contributed to, Charity Drive is now introducing the House Push-Up Challenge, a competition for all the Taylors’ students to take part in. The event will occur between March 9th and March 23rd and be open for all students to compete and win! The goal of the event is not only to get people active through doing push ups, but also to raise money for Oddballs, with a total goal to be raised of £1000.
How can you participate? If you are reading this as a student, all you have to do is take part in one of the two challenges you could try:
1. Do 20 push ups a day for the entire period, logging what you’ve done daily on the end-of-week form that’ll be sent out on a Friday.
2. If you feel like you can push yourself, start with 20 a day, and add on 5 push ups each day, logging this at the end-of-week form.
If you are reading this and thinking, “I can’t even do a pushup!”, then this is the perfect opportunity to become amazing at them. You can start on your knees, and when you feel comfortable with that, you can work up to doing your 20 push ups with ease.
And what is in it for you, you may ask? Sure, it is great to do an event like this for the pure intent of raising money for charity, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be prizes. As it is a house event, the house that raises the most amount of money from friends and family by donating to the JustGiving link below will win the House Competition, with a grand prize of the Push Up Trophy.
For individuals, there will be a final event on the last day of the competition, where we will determine who can do the greatest number of pushups without fail. Temptingly, there is an Amazon gift card of £25 to be received by the winner. To compete for this, you must have at least raised £10 in your efforts.
For friends, parents and teachers reading this, please do help support your students, children or friends in this competition. You can make a huge difference by donating to the JustGiving page below to reach the total of £1000.
Many thanks,
The Charity Drive Team
