Success for Antoni H. at the Scottish Boys' Open

Writes Antoni H. (U6th)

Earlier this month, I was fortunate enough to have won the Scottish Boys Open Championship at Cruden Bay GC, in North Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

I shot rounds of 69,68,70,70 (-15) to win by one shot over Norway’s Cornelius Farhang. This is the largest win in my career so far, pushing me into the Top 20 in Europe’s U18s and Top 90 in Europe’s amateur ranking.

As the tournament was held in Northern Scotland, I had to deal with extremely fluctuating and irrational weather conditions, such as rain, wind, sun, storms, and most of all, the bitter cold. In particular, the second round was one the of the most challenging in the week. I teed off at 15:10, in the second last group, and finished the last hole in near darkness. Luckily, I made eagle on the last, holing a 75-foot putt from just off the green to shoot 68 (-5) and snag a share of the lead going into the final 36.

The final posed its own challenge, as it was 36 holes, but I managed to hold off the chasing pack with a first round of 70 (-3) and an enormous birdie 2 on the par 3 16 to take a two-shot lead into the final two holes. This gave me a comfortable cushion to secure victory.

The win is an accumulation of a lot of hard work, time, and failure in previous events, so I am extremely thankful to have been able to win and to get to experience such a great week. Enormous thanks must go out to my coaches, the national team, Callaway and Titleist, and most importantly, my family and parents for supporting me. I look forward to taking forward this positive momentum into the upcoming events and look forward to more weeks like this in the future.
