For those who do not know us, we are Sebastian S. and Albert V. (both U6th), the Second Monitors, and we will be contributing a fortnightly piece to the school newsletter. We hope to offer an insight into life in the Sixth Form, reflecting on current occurrences and notable moments, whilst also giving consideration to the goings on in the wider school community.

For the Upper Sixth, last term felt like a frantic rush for many of us, with a certain level of stress attached to it; personal statements were drafted and then repeatedly tinkered with, in the hopes that every small change was one step closer to an offer. That hard work is now beginning to bear fruit in the form of university offers, creating a certain sense of excitement throughout the year.

Excitement has also been found in the new Lower Sixth, with a multitude of new opportunities being made available, including Peer Coaching, Young Enterprise and PHAB, with the new Lower Sixth PHAB group being selected at the end of the last half term. It has been great to see these boys already making their mark on the Sixth Form.

Whilst the start of the rugby season has been hampered by injury, the boys have nonetheless kept their head held high. As Sun Tzu writes in The Art of War, “He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its rank”, which serves as a timely reminder that rugby, at its essence, is a collective endeavour. That team spirit has been found in the 1st XV, with valiant efforts against St. Albans and Reading Blue Coat. There have been numerous demonstrations of leadership within the team, with many players stepping up to represent the Lambs when needed most.

Looking ahead to the rest of the term, the school has a plethora of events to enjoy and take part in as a community. With Movember already underway, it will be amusing to see attempts of growing a mo out, a great way to raise money for such a prominent issue. The term’s sporting calendar will also culminate in a final showdown against Merchant Taylors’ Crosby, promising an exciting end to the season and well worth coming along to watch.
