Now that the Third Form have dried off from their adventures in the Lake District and had time to reflect on the trip, we thought it would be a great time to hear all about it from one of the pupils on the trip, Devan P.

In the early hours of the morning, me and my fellow classmates embarked on the journey to Keswick in the Lake District. Our excitement overtook the tiredness as we all hustled on to the bus in anticipation of our first residential trip. Time passed quickly and before we knew it, we had arrived at our destination.
Despite it being wet and dreary, we hit the ground running with the first activity of the day, gorge scrambling. I was bustling with excitement as I didn’t know what to expect and before I knew it, I was standing in a freezing gorge. Though I could barely feel my feet, the adrenaline rush of clambering over rocks and sliding through mini water slides was thrilling. It was challenging at times, but we all encouraged each other and worked really well together. For me, this was the definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
After dinner, we took part in group quiz which was great fun. It was the perfect way to end the day with lots of laughs and even better, my team came managed to come second! Only six hours had passed and I instantly knew that this was going to be a trip I would never forget.
The next day (after a well-earned rest) we went to our next activity which was abseiling. I was fairly confident as it was not my first time but when I saw the cliff face, my confidence shattered to pieces. However, I mustered up the courage and as soon as my feet was on the edge of the precipice, I knew I could do it. I enjoyed it so much that I did it twice. We then went on to explore the“ Bowder Stone”, a historic boulder that had fallen thousands of years ago. That afternoon, we also took part in various team building challenges.
On our final morning, we hiked up a steep hill with our tired legs but the sun was finally shining and we had renewed energy as a result. This also meant we could appreciate the beautiful views across the mountains and hilltops. As we reached the top, we took pause to reflect on the past couple of days; we had encountered and braved numerous challenges, learnt important skills but most importantly I will always remember the fun that I had with my peers and will take these friendships onward in my Merchant Taylors journey.
