After weeks of anticipation and steady practice, our Medicine and Dentistry Society wrapped up its long-awaited three-week suturing course with an unforgettable final session – suturing real lamb hearts!
Led by Arin L. (U6th) and Yuvraj B. (U6th), this incredible finale marked the culmination of a journey that began with the basics of the simple interrupted suture, a technique used daily by medical and dental professionals alike. Over the past few weeks, students honed their skills on rubber suture pads under the guidance of Arin and Yuvraj, with fantastic support from James S. (U6th), Pranay P. (L6th), Daro B. (L6th), and Veer S. (L6th). Through patience, precision, and plenty of practice, everyone’s confidence and ability grew immensely.
And then came the big moment – the lamb hearts. There was a real buzz of excitement (and a few nerves!) as the group prepared for what felt like a truly professional experience. Working on the hearts was unlike anything before – realistic, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. Everyone rose to the occasion brilliantly, showing fantastic technique and control. There’s no doubt we have some future surgeons and dentists in the making!
This session was not just a fitting conclusion to the suture course, but also a heartfelt farewell to Arin and Yuvraj as they complete their time running the society. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and leadership have made every session engaging, educational, and inspiring. It’s bittersweet to see them hand things over, but there’s no doubt the next chairs will continue to build on their amazing work.
What a way to end the half term – and what a finale! The lamb heart suturing session was truly a long time coming, and it exceeded every expectation. A huge well done to everyone who took part – it was an unforgettable end to a fantastic series.
