Rugby, Squash, Hockey and Everything Inbetween: A Busy Week for Sport at Taylors'

Writes Gareth Roots, Director of Sport

Last weekend we played St Albans School in rugby. It was a fairly even block, with victories for the U15AB and U16AB teams. We go into half term with a 35% win ratio across the age range against some very strong rugby schools. It has been a really successful first half term on the whole, with record numbers involved in competitive matches. Rugby Week was once again a huge success, and we look forward to more rugby games after the half term break.

House Hockey for Year 7 has also been a fantastic initiative. It has allowed a large number of boys to enjoy the sport and experience some competitive matches against their peers, whilst helping house comradery. After half term, we start to play other schools on a regular basis.

Last week, we had a plethora of fixtures in activities outside of our core sports. We had golf and squash fixtures against Berkhamsted and our Senior Basketball team narrowly missed out to Watford Grammar who are notoriously very strong, 54-57. Our cross-country runners also competed at Harrow School in the Cross-Country Cup. The senior team qualified for the next round, which will be on the 10th November on Dulwich Common. On the subject of cross-country, on Wednesday we had our whole-school house cross country event. It was the first time we have run one big race with all age groups involved. The junior age groups ran 3k and the inters/seniors ran 5k. In total, we had 857 boys running, which was a sight to behold! Sami M (Yr 9) won the junior race in an impressive time of 12 minutes and 51 seconds. In the inters/seniors race, Niccolo C just pipped Advay B in a time of 17 minutes and 50 seconds. 14 boys ran the 5k course in under 20 minutes which is extremely impressive!

Finally, the U15A rugby team beat Windsor Boys in the first round of the National Cup on Monday and will play their next round after the half term break. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Taylors’ school sport since September. I hope the boys enjoy the break and we will go again in a couple of weeks!
