A Rare Octuple Sighting!

Writes Xander A. (U6th)

We put the octuple together after the final adjustments to our footplates today. We had to coat the connecting walls in Vaseline & collect it all when it was forced out from the join as we tightened the bolts in the particular order Ms Scott taught us. This is all great experience for university, where we will be mostly rowing VIIIs & will be splitting them for transportation to competitions.

We have never rowed anything bigger than a quad, but the oct was amazingly stable and really great fun. It can be rigged for sweep oars as well as sculling blades, so those pupils old enough to row sweep will try that too.

We needed a brave cox! Having a megaphone made that role even more fun! We’ll be able to get a lot more pupils on the water with this new-to-us nine-person rowing boat. We already have three quads, two doubles and four single sculls.

Rowing is a very popular option, and now even more pupils can enjoy the beautiful lake & gain this valuable skill.
