Last week the Merchant Taylors’ Chess Team earned a famous victory against last year’s Regional Champions – Habs.
Last year we suffered a chastening defeat to our old rivals, but with a year of hard work and team building behind us, we won 3.5-2.5 under extraordinary circumstances.
The match included a truly ridiculous turnaround — under serious time pressure — by Pranav M. (Divs); a masterful checkmate tactic when seemingly on the brink of defeat (Aarav A. U3rds); and a truly dominant display by main man Jacob L. (4ths) on Board One. Bardia H. and Josh G. (U6th) lost narrowly in highly tactical games, while Riku O. (4ths) secured the victory with a solid draw.
We are now one step away from the National Finals — roll on the Regional Final against QEB!
