Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu promotes physical fitness, self-defence skills, mental discipline, and camaraderie, offering students a supportive environment to build resilience, confidence, and respect for others. It is rapidly establishing itself at MTS, with a dedicated and enthusiastic group of young athletes choosing it as their games option.
Some students are new to this fast-growing martial art, while others train outside of school and have already enjoyed success in local competitions. The programme is led by first-degree black belt Richard Harris, with support from blue belt Mr Cataldo. With over 25 years of martial arts experience, Mr Harris brings unmatched expertise and attention to detail, helping the students develop their skills remarkably under his guidance. Outside of games, he also runs the Youth Jiu Jitsu Academy at 6pm on a Thursday in the Sports Hall, which offers training to MTS students as well as other boys and girls from the local area.
We’re also fortunate to have state-of-the-art roll-down mats, making training both safe and professional. MTS is among the few schools in the country to offer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a games option, and it’s likely others will soon follow our lead.
