On Saturday 22nd March, eleven of our students embarked on an exciting adventure, representing either the UK or Switzerland across seven committees at Dr Challoner’s inaugural MUN conference. Although MUN is a collective endeavour, it is always rewarding for individual delegates to be praised for their contributions. Congratulations to Ishaan H in Divisions for winning Best Delegate, serving on the challenging Crisis Committee.
The day was filled with impassioned debate and lobbying. The World Health Organisation committee sought to improve international cooperation to combat global pandemics, while the Humanitarian Cultural committee delved into safeguarding cultural heritage sites during armed conflicts. A few students even managed to pass their individual resolutions through committee, with Ranvir S motion on decolonisation and self-determination adopted with near unanimous support – talk about making an impact! This is what MUN is all about – learning about the complexities of international diplomacy, building confidence in research and public speaking, and ultimately, having fun.
As our Middle School students reflected on how much they enjoyed collaborating with like-minded peers from other schools, we also celebrated the significant progress the society has made over the past academic year, which could not have been achieved without the backing of the Clubs and Societies Fund. The Fund have made it possible for our club leaders to look for the highest quality conferences, and we already have more planned for next year! Our thanks must therefore be extended to the Clubs and Societies Fund for their support.
