The Sanātana Dharma Society brought auspicious blessings to the start of the new academic year this week by holding a special consecration ceremony for the club. Students gathered to take part in an Arti ceremony in honour of Lord Ganesh as part of the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, one of the most widely observed festivals in the Hindu calendar.
Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth of Lord Ganesh, the Hindu deity recognised by his elephant head and revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of wisdom, and the god of new beginnings. For many Hindus, it is a particularly fitting festival at the start of an academic year, as devotees seek Ganesh’s blessings for success in learning, personal growth, and future endeavours.
The ceremony included traditional singing, devotional chanting, prayers, and the offering of light during the Arti ritual. Students and staff had the opportunity to learn more about the significance of the festival and the values it represents, including perseverance, knowledge, humility, and service to others.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated by Hindus around the world and usually lasts for several days, bringing communities together in worship and celebration. While rooted in Hindu tradition, the festival also provides an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to learn about one of the world’s oldest living faiths and the importance of community, gratitude, and reflection within religious life.
The event was a wonderful way to begin the year, offering both a spiritual focus and a sense of community for members of the Sanātana Dharma Society. We are grateful to Krishaang B. (5ths) for running and organising and look forward to another successful year of activities, discussion, and learning within the society.
