MTS Public Speaking Competition Final 2024

Last Thursday after school saw the hotly anticipated final of the MTS Public Speaking Competition. The finalists had started the competition in their English lessons, where every boy from the Thirds to the Fourth-Form was required to give a speech as part of the English curriculum.

Now, in the prestigious setting of the Exam Hall, boys gave their speeches to an audience of teachers, students, parents and our esteemed judge Rishi Davda OMT. Rishi spoke warmly of his time at MTS and inspiringly on the public speaking he does everyday in his job as Entertainment Reporter for ITV news. He was very impressed by he quality of speeches and had the very difficult task of choosing the winners. This year speakers were given a more free reign when choosing their topic, filling in the gap for either 'It's time for a fresh look at _________', 'Being a good person is all about ________' or 'The most important subject we study at school is _____________'

Emerson Cconfidently started proceedings with an engaging and eye-opening speech titled 'It's time for a fresh look at social media.' Monty H was next with his impassioned call for 'a fresh look at sugar'. He was followed by Folarin Awho entertained his audience as they took an amusing look at Cross-Country. Next, Abhishek S,who surely has a future as a professional motivational speaker, told us how being a good person is all about self-discipline. Closing the Fourth-form round was Ranvir Swith an erudite and engaging exploration of power.

The Thirds and Upper Thirds round was kicked off by Eliyaan Jwho directly addressed his audience with a enthusiastic call for a fresh look at the education system. A surprising topic followed from Leo P, who had his audience in stitches by asking them to take a fresh look at cheese rolling. Next up was Pravir P who spoke powerfully on humility with wisdom beyond his years.

Vinit B followed with a persuasive case for maths being the most important subject we study at school. Theo S's confident, engaging and personal speech asking for a fresh look at neurodiversity gave an impressive conclusion to the competition.

All speakers impressed Rishi who, after some deliberation, announced the following winners:

Fourths Winner: Monty H

Judge's Commendation: Leo P
