Harry Baker - Poetry Performances in the Library

“Poetry can be anything you make it”

Continuing the school’s celebration of National Poetry Day, award winning poet Harry Baker captured the imaginations of the Upper Third Form on Tuesday with his astounding feats of linguistic acrobatics.

From bumblebees and maths to falafel and dinosaurs, his poetry explored humour, language and life. He even performed his 2012 Poetry World Cup winning poem Paper People, which is the best poem in the world (according to five random French people).

A group of Upper Thirds were then lucky to work with Harry to write some poetry themselves.  Working on a free writing exercise led to some fantastic poems from the students.

Science by Avi A (U3rds)

Science is like facts and figures

Floating around ready to be discovered.

Hidden, in nooks and corners

But also blatantly obvious.

Science is like solving an equation

But in each answer there could be a deeper meaning.

Biology, chemistry, physics

All stuck together like on big tree

Coming out from the same foundation.

It’s fun, fascinating, factual

Explosive, jaw-dropping, complex

Beginning of all beginnings

Ends of all ends

Metaverses, milky ways, galaxies

Where there is no stops

Undiscovered truths to be unveiled

Lies to be dissolved

Science is all of this.

Scientists, doctors, opticians,

Dentists, astrologers, chemists,

Biologists, physicists, therapists.

All formed by Science.
