Book Boffz get Factual During National Non-Fiction November
On Friday 15th November Book Boffz focused on National Non-Fiction November. Participants explored some of the library’s fascinating collection of non-fiction resources, and eagerly shared the facts they discovered, such as our 40% DNA similarity with apples, koalas’ 20-hour sleep habits, and the impressive 24 minute 37 second world record for holding one’s breath.
Pupils also took part in a tricky fact or fiction quiz and were then challenged to explore their writing talents by creating persuasive non-fiction book blurbs aimed at capturing the attention of potential readers.
Everyone enjoyed the following creative and humorous blurb that accompanied a book called “50 foolproof excuses for not doing your homework.”
“OH NO! You haven’t done your homework and it’s due for the next lesson!
Well never fear! With this book any sticky homework situation you happen to be stuck in will be resolved in a flash. This book contains every possible excuse you can think of, from old timers like ‘my dog ate my homework’, to new-jangled modern ones, like ‘an alien abducted my pencil case so I couldn’t write.’ Whatever the situation this book will solve it. Now get reading and never suffer a detention again!”
The session ended as always with biscuits and a reminder that Book Boffz meets every Friday from 3.45 – 4.45pm in the Junior Library.
