Jeevan: A Rising Star in the Sixth Form Art Studio

Walking into Jeevan’s studio space in the sixth form art department, one is immediately struck by the hive of creative activity. Every available surface is occupied by works in progress, each at a different stage of completion. It feels less like a student workspace and more like the bustling studio of a professional artist.

Jeevan's artistic endeavours go far beyond his A Level syllabus. While currently focused on advancing his already advanced skills in painting and sculpture—part of a curriculum designed to push his artistic boundaries—he’s also creating an impressionist painting of the school as part of the Art Scholars’ Enrichment Programme. Beyond this, Jeevan is delving into personal projects inspired by a transformative summer trip to Kenya, where the landscapes and culture have clearly left their mark on his creative vision.

Reflecting on his transition to A Level Art, Jeevan shared his enthusiasm for the increased opportunities and challenges:

"In A Level Art, compared to GCSE, there’s much more room to experiment with different styles and scales, which allows you to be more ambitious with your artworks. There’s also a stronger emphasis on elevating the quality of your work through thorough study into the effects of certain techniques. This requires you to challenge yourself and be constructively critical of your work so it can be improved.

"Another highlight is having your own sixth form studio space with enhanced resources and room to work. This makes the process infinitely more enjoyable—working in a personal and comfortable space alongside others has motivated me to spend more time in the art department and push my artwork further."

Jeevan’s passion and dedication are evident in the quality and variety of his output. From bold experiments to thoughtful refinements, his work promises to make an exciting contribution to the art department and beyond. It will be fascinating to see how his talent evolves over the next two years.
