Rowing Round-Up

As the rowing squad returned from the winter break, we found the lake to be frozen over resulting in a pause to the on-water training. The team, however, took this as an opportunity to make full use of the five new ergs which, after a quick assembly, were tested during a 2k training session.

This added capability proves invaluable allowing for corrections to technique and improvement to overall fitness levels.

After recent delivery of the oct, it is finally starting to take shape with the riggers now fixed in place and the boat almost ready to be joined together before being refloated. It has been a team effort from everyone involved in rowing to prepare a newly fenced area suitable for such a large boat as there was not adequate storage left in boathouse. Once fully assembled, it will be the largest boat with a crew of 9 at an impressive length of 20m and weighing 100 kilos. It will be a challenge for the whole crew to coordinate getting the oct on and off the water!

Looking ahead, we are preparing for a small competition against a local school when the weather improves. Our growing fleet now includes four sculls, two doubles, and three quads, in addition to the oct, allowing us to head-to-head race down the full length of the lake. This will provide excellent race practice and experience for rowers across all year groups. Lower School participants from Rowing Club, as well as Middle and Upper School rowers from Games Rowing, will have the opportunity to compete, reinforcing the inclusive and competitive spirit of our squad.
