School Archives Day

On Wednesday this week Merchant Taylors' celebrated School Archives Day, an event that saw schools around the country open their archives to celebrate their history.
Sessions at MTS ran throughout the day and included an object handling session for lower sixth classics students with objects from the former school museum and an organised visit by former pupils and members of the community to look around the archive. Students were also encouraged to visit the archive throughout the day to see some of the treasures that were put on display. With such an old history dating back to 1561, there are many special items in the archive which people were able to read and admire. The pupils were most interested in the Maths exams from the 1830s onwards and aerial pictures of the school’s grounds before the lakes were filled.
Appointments to visit the school archive can be made by contacting the school archivist Isabel Hesketh on archives@mtsn.org.uk.
