Clubs & Societies Highlight: Formula 1 Club

Co-curricular activities welcome likeminded students and staff to nurture passions and indulge interests, forging friendships which span across classes and year groups. Our current provision is extensive, numbering at over one hundred and fifty options, with more growing each year. Each week, we seek to celebrate one of the many clubs and societies that form part of the rich fabric of Merchant Taylors’.
This week we look at F1 Club, a space for speed, imagination and fun!
The Formula 1 Club, which meets every lunchtime during The Hour on Fridays, has become a popular and exciting activity for students. This week, they enjoyed the new racing simulator, which has temporarily been retrofitted to a Year 12 student's go-kart which they built in a recent school DT module.
We currently have a team of individuals designing and fabricating a dedicated simulator rig, which will hopefully be ready in the Summer Term. Students of all years enjoyed racing around iconic tracks like Silverstone and Spa, pushing their limits and setting impressive lap times. The racing simulator offers an immersive experience, replicating real-world racing conditions with stunning graphics, realistic physics, and detailed car models. It allows users to fine-tune their skills and improve their reaction times, decision-making, and driving techniques, all while offering a safe and controlled environment.
Whether for casual fun or serious practice, the simulator is a valuable tool for any aspiring driver or racing enthusiast. Please do come along if you have an interest in cars and the glamourous world of F1!
