Teatime Concert

The second Teatime Concert of the term attracted nearly fifty parents and staff, who arrived at 4 o'clock to feast on the usual array of cakes and biscuits provided for their delectation. Half an hour later the Guitar Ensemble, under the direction of Nike Hawkins, opened the concert with two pieces by Lou Warde, Moon Rising and then Long Road Home.

The String Quartet, comprising of Max C. (L6ths), Zhennuo W. (5ths), Sohan D. (U6ths), and Thomas M. (L6ths), then played the first movement of Borodin's second Quartet in D. This was followed by the lyrical Andante from Haydn's trumpet concerto in E-flat, played by Yugo F. (U3rds). The captivating Prelude in G-sharp minor by Rachmaninoff way then played by Josh S. (U3rds) on the piano, followed by Un poco triste by Josef Suk, played on the violin by Zak F. (4ths).

The first singer in the Teatime Concert was Aarnav H. (Divs), who sang an aria from Vivaldi's Griselda. This was followed by Boyao X.'s (Divs) performance of the curious Elfentanz by Florence Price. Rohan D. (U3rds) then took to the piano, playing Billy Strayhorn's lively Take the 'A' Train. Saint-Saens' Allegro appassionato was then played on the cello by Rafi A. (Divs), before Archit R. (4ths) sang a lyrical rendition of Gershwin's Love Walked In, though perhaps the range was a little low.

The penultimate performer of the afternoon was Aiden de A. (4ths) who gave a confident rendition of the Gigue from Bach's unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 3. To conclude the programme Lucian H. (Divs) gave a beautiful performance of Brahms's Intermezzo in A.

We look forward to the remaining concerts of the term, the Organ Rectial at St Mary-le-Bow on Tuesday 18th March, and then the Joint Schools' Choral Concert on Monday 31st March.
