Division Students Host Le Sommet G7

Ms Kotsuba’s Fifth Form French pupils had their final speaking lesson on Module 8, “Environment,” in the form of a G7 summit. This brought about a lot of excitement. Each pupil was eager to undertake research on an allocated country and be ready to speak impromptu, answering pertinent questions on the topic.

Flags and nameplates for the representatives of respective countries were handed out, along with a range of juice from Waitrose, all served to simulate the ambiance at the summit.

Our par excellence chair Charles B. managed the debate skilfully, using gems of French throughout, which brought about smiles and nods. Aran S. excelled with his use of the subjunctive, while Niam S. showcased his command of Si-structures. Daniel Z. spoke French as if he had forgotten it was not his native tongue - such was the extent of his natural fluency. The United States, as always, was bombarded with questions, and Zayd H. took upon his duty to handle them the best he could, providing lucid responses. Ayush G. used a maxim, and Nick C. enjoyed as many goblets of juice as the number of questions he posed.

In all, students spoke for 50 minutes in French, maintaining a natural flow of conversation and using impressive language on a topic traditionally perceived to be difficult. Everyone benefited from it, as it was a perfect dress rehearsal for their IGCSE speaking exam. What a finale before the Easter break!
