MTS secures two trophies in Robotics event

This weekend two of our VEX V5 robotics teams  attended a regional robotics competition at Queen Elizabeth’s Boys School. Both teams MTS_R3START 13765X) and MTS_Parity (13765Z) faced tough competition throughout the day with many teams travelling from as far as Coventry and 2 teams from Foshan, Guangdong, China.

Nevertheless, both our MTS teams were able to prevail and maintain 1st and 2nd position in the qualification rankings from start to finish. After weeks of preparation and practice, MTS put on wonderful display of skill as our two teams ended up as the only teams unbeaten throughout the course of the day. This put our teams in the strongest position possible to pick their alliance for the elimination matches.

Due to the high ranking of the MTS teams, they qualified straight into the quarter finals. While MTS_Parity were not able to claim victory, MTS_R3START were able to carry their unbeaten run to the finals match. Here, four teams battled out but only one alliance out of two teams could win the tournament. After a thrilling match, MTS_R3START and their alliance partner travelling from Coventry were able to win the match 133 points to 112 and were, therefore, presented with the tournament champions award.

Next was the announcement of the highest award achievable at the competition; the excellence award. This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a high-quality robotics program. This team is a strong contender in numerous award categories such as the skills challenge, the engineering notebook and the qualification rankings. Both MTS teams had a good chance of winning this award but it was MTS_Parity who managed to secure it, gaining their place among another three MTS teams in the VEX Robotics UK National Championships later this season.

After an incredible, well-run tournament, MTS came home with two major trophies; the tournament champions and the excellence award, taking our total sum of trophies to twelve this season. We hope for further success in a season that has already proved to be one of our best so far.
