On Friday 26th January, boys from all year groups in the school took part in the annual Charity Drive sleepout. Prior to the evening, the students set a goal of raising £1000 for the local New Hope Charity. Throughout the night the boys enjoyed several activities organised and run by the Charity Drive team. These included fort-building, birthday cake, and board games. One of the highlights of the event was a football tournament with boys from Y7 through to Y13 teaming up to display a variety of skill!

Notably, the evening provided a platform for Mr Oey to showcase his FIFA skills to the boys, giving them a tough time in their round robin tournament and (very nearly!) coming out on top. The boys then ‘slept rough’ during the evening, having to make mini forts with cardboard within their groups along the cold corridors of the school. After an early wake up call, the clean up operation was swift. The boys were undoubtedly eager to get home to a warm and comfortable bed!

We would like to extend a thank you to the wider MTS community for the donations, with which we were able to smash our target and raise a mighty £1300. For any last minute donations, please use the Just Giving link at the base of this article.

The main point of this event was to not only raise awareness but also raise money for New Hope, a charity devoted to helping the homeless get off their feet.

New Hope, previously Watford New Hope Trust, is a Watford-based charity that aims to provide support for homeless and vulnerably-housed individuals. Founded by Janet Hosier and Sheila Meaning (1990), New Hope offers help and advice for those sleeping rough (and for relatives/friends of homeless individuals). They operate an emergency phone line 24/7 and a support centre named The Haven, where they provide access to personal items, outreach services and shower and laundry facilities. All funds raised during the Sleep Out will be donated to New Hope, a charity dependent on the support of the local community.
