Sporting Round-up 9th February

Here is the weekly summary of all things Sports at Merchant Taylors' School. Written by Director of Sport, Gareth Roots

It has been another busy week for Sport, as we approach February half term. On Saturday 3rd February, our hockey teams played The Perse School, Cambridge. Our 1st XI came across very strong opposition, losing the game 5-0 but this prepared them well for later in the week, where they beat Lingfield College and Forest School comprehensively in the Cup competitions. Elsewhere, there was a remarkable 7-7 draw fore the U15A team, with strong wins for the 2nd XI (6-0!) and U16Bs.

Our junior rugby players came across a very strong Queen Elizabeth’s School, but it was great to get 75 boys playing rugby! The U14A hockey team did really well in their County Cup competition, finishing 3rd overall and they also won their National Cup game 4-2 against Dr Challenor’s School on Wednesday – well done to them! The senior footballers were also in action this Wednesday, with the 1st XI narrowly losing their Cup game 1-2. They have had a fantastic run and should be proud of their performances since September! The U13 hockey side won their County round on Thursday and the U12s play theirs on Friday. This weekend, we have a smaller hockey block v Aldenham School, with a much-needed break for some of the sides who have been playing so much recently. Well done to everyone involved in sport this week!
