Fourth Form Produce Electric Work on Plate Boundaries!

Miss Maxfield’s 4ths Geographers were given the chance to swap roles with the teacher, and for one period only, teach the class, competing for the kudos of Best Teacher. Read on to see how it went...

The class were divvied into teams, and each team focused upon one of three major types of tectonic plate boundaries. Marks won on grounds of detailed content and use of key terminology. One team created a video news report on tectonic action at the Marianas Trench.

Other superb presentations included the form of a rap, a model and news reels. In an unexpected twist, Rick Astley’s song – ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ became a new conservative plate boundary song. It was a very close competition, with a heavy demand for group work, rehearsal and creative presentation methods.

Miss Maxfield (resident teacher) stated, “We were all very entertained – while on our learning journey”. Commendations were awarded to the winners, and it is hoped the Headmaster will be equally entertained! Please enjoy the inventive lyrics of the tectonic plate rap below:

Rap: Destructive:  Cont Vs Cont

(Verse 1)

Yo, we talkin' 'bout plates, not dinner for two,

Indian and Eurasian, in a tectonic groove.

Collidin' and slidin', causing quite a fuss,

Cookin' up a mountain, Himalayas, that's a plus.

(Chorus) Everyone

Himalayas rising, yeah, they on the move,

Collision boundaries groovin', can't you feel the groove?

Earth's crust dancin', like it's in a trance,

Mountains growin' tall, it's a tectonic romance.

(Verse 2)

From the plains of India to the snowy peaks,

Plates pushin' hard, playin' hide and seek.

Eurasia says, "Hey, come a little closer,"

Indian plate replies, "I'm the heavyweight bulldozer."

(Chorus) Everyone

Himalayas rising, yeah, they on the move,

Collision boundaries groovin', can't you feel the groove?

Earth's crust dancin', like it's in a trance,

Mountains growin' tall, it's a tectonic romance.

(Bridge)

Shiftin' and liftin', geological beat,

Tectonic rhythm, can't be discreet.

Himalayas climbin', like a rap encore,

Collision boundaries, Earth's epic tour.

(Verse 3)

In the collision zone, where the action's hot,

Plates throw a party, it's a tectonic plot.

Himalayas climbin', can't you see the fun?

A mountain range born, when the plates get it done.

(Chorus) Everyone

Himalayas rising, yeah, they on the move,

Collision boundaries groovin', can't you feel the groove?

Earth's crust dancin', like it's in a trance,

Mountains growin' tall, it's a tectonic romance.

(Outro)

So next time you see a peak, touch the sky,

Remember the rap of plates, don't be shy.

Himalayas standin', in their tectonic glory,

A collision story, ain't it funny?
