French to the Fore with the G7 Summit & Panglossia Debates with Lower Sixth Linguist

There has been a lot of action with our French linguists across the Fifth and Sixth Forms this week. Find out about some of the fantastique work being done.

The G7 Summit in French!

The topic of environment is traditionally perceived by our Fifths learners of French as a challenging, but thoroughly engaging topic.

To assist her students to attain top fluency in their IGCSE, Ms Kotsuba’s classes had their final lessons on the environment in the format of The G7 Summit. The students were tasked to prepare their speeches in line with specific issues of their allocated countries.

The intellectual fun became soon apparent when students engaged in posing pertinent questions and offering impromptu answers. The boardroom setting with soft drinks, flags and a clip from The Girl in the Café created the necessary ambiance, conducive to the students’ serious approach to the lesson. Jim and Samuel, who chaired the Summit in respective classes, found it tricky to deal with a "protester”, which brought about extra amusement to the lesson.

In the Mention Spéciale category are the students who contributed most to the dynamics of both lessons: Trish, Sufyan, Arin, Jim, Xander, Veer, Dylan, Thomas, Sam, Joshan and Samuel. Chapeau, Messieurs!

Panglossia: French Debates with the L6th Linguists

French Debates has long been our annual headline event at MFL Panglossia Club. Like in previous years, it fell to our L6th French linguists to debate a topical motion. This year, the session was all about voting: “Le vote devrait être  obligatoire”.  Ms Danis’ group of nine students debated the issue for over 30 minutes, demonstrating solid research, fluency and grammatical accuracy. Whether you understood the French or not, the height of entertainment for the spectators was the heated nature of the debate, which was evident through passionate body language and wit. Chapeau, messieurs!

Special thanks must go to the actors of the event: Marcello, Andreas, Krish, Keshav, Saran, Louis, Oliver and Veer.
