Going to an Auction - in French!
Ms Kotsuba’s Fifths sets have had lots of intellectual fun in lessons this week, selling Jean-Jacques Sempé’s illustrations at an auction.
The premise was to hone their picture-based task exam technique. The students described an illustration and responded to five questions in the format required by the IGCSE Edexcel board.
Then the auction room was set up, complete with an auctioneer bearing a mallet behind the lectern. Students described five illustrations, one per group of three. Bids were then made based on the mark schemes for this task, with maximum of 120 euros. Special mention to V Patel, J Garvey and S Williams.
The results of the auction are as follows:
Lot 1 – Cours de danse 60 euros, sold by an auction house Sotheby
Lot 2 - Café de Flore 70 euros, sold by an auction house Christie
Lot 3 - Pétanque 100 euros, sold by an auction house Artcurial
Lot 4 – Accident de la route 120 euros, sold by an auction house Aguttes
Lot 5 - Poule – 80 euros, sold by an auction house Millon
