Sixth Form Spanish Trip to British Film Institute

The Sixth Form Spanish students took a trip to the BFI on the Southbank on Thursday 21st March for a study day on Filming the Legacy of Dictatorship in Spain and Chile.

In the afternoon, students watched a presentation by university lecturers Professor Sarah Wright and Dr Miguel García about dictatorships in Spain and Chile, similarities and differences, and the pact of forgetting. These topics link closely with the Eduqas A Level Spanish specification which we study, so students were able to take a lot of information away to help with their studies.

Finally (and perhaps the most enriching part of the day) was a question and answer session with Julio Pacheco Yepes, who was the first Franco-era torture victim to testify in Spanish court. Students were able to hear a first-hand perspective of what life was like for Spanish people during the dictatorship, which will hopefully give them a new perspective when studying this topic.
